Jessica Simpson's hair is one rare constant in an ever-changing world. While other celebrities are dying their hair every color of the rainbow and chopping it all off at the slightest provocation, it's difficult to picture J-Simp with anything but long, wavy, super blonde hair. It's not natural, of course. Few adults have hair that blonde naturally, but many children do. In fact, Jessica Simpson's current hair is dyed to match that of her 2-year-old daughter, Maxwell.
'I wanted her hair to be timeless, so the color was more of a baby blonde [to match] Maxwell's color, with subtle highlights that blend into her hair,' colorist Rita Hazan said in an interview with People.
Aww. That's sweet. And tiny children do seem to have a lock on the best shades of blond. Getting that color as an adult takes work, though. Hazan says she actually worked for months on Simpson's hair color to match Maxwell's color and make sure it 'didn't look fake' at the wedding.
'Jessica just had to be blonde. She looks her best as a blonde,' Hazan said to People, which has an amazing picture of Simpson's wedding hair and veil on its website. And getting Simpson to exactly the right blonde actually took six months of regular coloring. Hazan said she started six months in advance, doing a single process with highlights every month to build up the right dimension, and then a final touch-up the week of the wedding.
'Highlight placement is important, and the tone is the most important. It has to be perfect: not too pale and not too golden,' she said.
It might have taken six months of work, but Simpson did wind up with the perfect shade of Barbie blond. That hair is her signature, and it went perfectly with Jessica Simpson's gorgeous Carolina Herrera wedding dress.
Sure, taking her 2-year-old to the salon as a color chip might seem a bit out there, but I think it's more common than one might initially believe. My mother regularly goes to the salon to have her red hair matched to mine. It might not be natural, but when you've got two people in a picture with exactly the same shade, it definitely helps one maintain plausible deniability.
'Of course I'm a natural redhead. Look, my mom's is the same color.'
