Bristol Post Hair Salon of the Year 2014: Time to vote for your favourite ...

THEY can be our best friends, confidants, and advisers on everything from love to finances - and occasionally they cut our hair too. Plenty of well-loved hairdressers work in Bristol, but we are on a quest to find the very best in the city, and recognise the salons and stylists you rely on.

They can be anyone from the cutting-edge stylist in the city centre, to your independent hairdresser who has been doing your barnet since you were five.

Our award is designed to celebrate the wealth of talent and creative flair on show in Bristol.

The nominations are now in, and more than 100 individuals and salons have been commended by their clients. Now, it's down to you to pick the best and vote for your favourite. There are two categories - one for stylists and one for salons.

The top five stylists with the most votes will then be challenged to a live final at South Gloucestershire and Stroud College on August 22. A top stylist will then judge the entries, to crown the Bristol Post Hairdresser of the Year 2014, who will receive a signed certificate, framed front page and editorial feature in paper.

Voting forms will be printed in the paper from now until August 16. All you have to do is fill in the voting form and send it back to us. The winning salon will be judged by public votes only, and the salon with the most votes will be crowned Bristol Post Hair Salon of the Year 2014.

Nominations are now closed, and the public can only vote for existing nominees.

Salons from across the city are in the running, from Clifton to Bedminister - so there's a chance your local is there.

Nominees range from big chains like Toni and Guy, to small, independent and new businesses, with one or two stylists.

Darren Uren, a stylist at the newly- opened Betties and Baldwins on Small Street, said he was delighted that his salon has been recognised.

He said: 'We only opened on Small Street in April so it is especially nice to be nominated. There are three of us here, and we were working somewhere else in Bristol before we moved to set this up.

'We are delighted at the nomination and to be appreciated by the clients. It's really lovely.'

*Voting forms will be printed daily in the Bristol Post until August 16
