Thirsty Skin and Hair!

It seems that 2014 is really serving up its fair share of cold...BURRR. Well as much as heat can be drying (how about those crazy temperatures in the summer) the winter can zap your hair and skin of moisture. Shockingly, yes the winter is just as harsh as the summer months. These low temps are very drying. Many notice chapped skin, cracking skin, ashy skin, and hard heels and hands. Hat hair doesn't do better. Our tresses need protection from the awful wind and subzero temperatures. What to do?

Water. Water...and more water. We have all learned by now that we benefit greatly from drinking water. We all know the skin absolutely loves water. You will get clear skin and a wonderful glow just by adding the magical eight cups. Hey, drink more if you can and continue flushing the impurities from you system. I wish water alone would be enough in the winter but you need a barrier against the wind and low temperatures.

By now most have heard about Olive Oil, Shea Butter, Cocoa Butter, and Mango Butter. Well don't just know about them, USE THEM! Your skin will thank you for using these generously. Love your skin no matter what. You may find that over-the-counter blends are what works for you. Don't be afraid to keep trying until you find what works for you. Your hair and skin will thank you by beautiful, surviving the winter and being summer ready!

Hair:

Believe it or not your hair also needs protection from the winter elements. Moisture is your friend. You may find that that Shea Butter, Olive Oil or Coconut Oil (just to name a few) will seal the ends of the hair which is perfect for women. Ladies do protective styles such as buns, braids and twists. These simple style can retain length and stop your hair from brushing up against clothing which can cause breakage. For the men, a simple touch of Shea Butter or others will keep the hair from flaking, a.k.a. dandruff. If you are afraid of oily hair apply your choice at night before applying your hair covering or sleeping on a satin covered pillow.

Many people experience dry and or itchy scalp in the winter. Don't be alarmed. That's the drying effect of winter on your scalp. You may find hot oil treatments and or Apple Cider rinses perfect for you scalp. Keep your scalp moisturized with high moisturizing conditioners and apply the aforementioned natural butters and or oils.

If your experience is extreme in skin or hair consult your health care provider.

Take care of your skin and hair in winter so you can present the fabulous you all ready for SUMMER!!
