Beyoncé Knowles rocked a new short hairstyle at the 2014 Grammy Awards. Queen B styled her short blonde crop into a curly bob - complete with a 'wet look' and smoky eyes.

In a world where most pop stars treat the term 'feminist' like the other f-word (even Madonna prefers to call herself a 'humanist'), Beyoncé Knowles is impressively committed to the cause. The former Destiny's Child has been singing messages of female empowerment for decades now, and earlier this month used her celebrity to draw attention to a very important fact: Gender equality is a myth.
In an essay excerpted from The Shriver Report: A Woman's Nation Pushes Back from the Brink Beyoncé - who apparently publishes under the name Beyoncé Knowles-Carter (!) - insists that the United States is still a world away from gender parity.
'Today, women make up half of the U.S. workforce, but the average working woman earns only 77 percent of what the average working man makes,' Beyoncé notes. 'But unless women and men both say this is unacceptable, things will not change. Men have to demand that their wives, daughters, mothers, and sisters earn more-commensurate with their qualifications and not their gender. Equality will be achieved when men and women are granted equal pay and equal respect.'
Beyoncé, who was the only woman whose album broke into the top 10 best sellers in 2013, acknowledged that there must be a shift in cultural values in order to achieve these goals.
'Humanity requires both men and women, and we are equally important and need one another. So why are we viewed as less than equal? These old attitudes are drilled into us from the very beginning,' she writes. 'We have to teach our boys the rules of equality and respect, so that as they grow up, gender equality becomes a natural way of life. And we have to teach our girls that they can reach as high as humanly possible.'
'We have a lot of work to do, but we can get there if we work together. Women are more than 50 percent of the population and more than 50 percent of voters. We must demand that we all receive 100 percent of the opportunities.'
The Shriver Report: A Woman's Nation Pushes Back from the Brink is available for free download through January 15. Beyoncé is not the only celebrity to weigh in on the 400-page comprehensive report, which explores financial insecurity among American women. Eva Longoria, LeBron James, and Jada Pinkett also penned essays.
