6 Reasons Guys Like Girls With Short Hair

When my friend recently cut several inches off her hair, she went from attractive to dayumm, girl. Despite (well-deserved) rave reviews from everyone, she admitted feeling self-conscious about her new 'do. 'I don't feel feminine or sexy anymore,' she told me. 'It's like guys will think I'm a boy.'

Au contraire. I'm one of lots of dudes who've been into chopped chicks since before it became the 'It' trend of 2013. Take Bond-era Halle Berry and Natalie Portman circa V for Vendetta, for example.

So fear not, shorthaired heroines: here are six reasons guys dig your trimmed-down 'do.

What may seem like a drastic hairstyle change for you is generally indiscernible to guys. So while I don't notice the difference between 'blown out' and 'natural' and whatever, I do understand the concept of length. Shorter: gotcha.

A woman intentionally changing her appearance is almost always a win. It's like returning from vacation with a tan, undergoing an Olivia Newton John in Grease-esque makeover, or posing for an 'after' shot in a Proactive commercial. Cutting your hair short is like reinventing yourself and reinvention is sexy-especially if I notice it.

It seems like cutting your hair can be a frightening and potentially traumatic experience, like everyone who donates to Locks of Love is immediately enlisted in the marines.

I can relate to an extent. During my first haircut, my hysterical crying could only be pacified by a roomful of supportive family members and endless supply of cotton-candy flavored Dum Dums. So I get it: cutting your hair is difficult.

When a woman takes that chance, faces her fears head-on (see what I did there???), and shows up on Monday rocking the socks off a pixie or bob or bowl cut (which I sported for about a decade), she's got a fan in me.

3. It puts you in good company.

I couldn't name three curly-haired celebrities or three wavy-haired celebrities, partially because again, in guys' minds, what's the difference? Short-haired celebs, though? I've got about a dozen on deck.

4. It accentuates your beautiful features.

So when a girl goes from 'Party in the USA' to 'We Can't Stop' up top, I immediately associate her with other short-haired beauties: Rihanna, Pink, Amber Rose, Demi Moore in GI Jane, Beyonce for, like, the span of one Instagram photo, and Robyn, among others. Anything you can do to liken yourself to Jennifer Lawrence is a big win.

Namely your face and the pretty stuff attached to it.

Once I told a female friend I was dating a girl with a buzz cut. 'Oh, she must be really pretty,' my friend responded. 'If her hair is that short, she definitely has a gorgeous face.' And she totally did! I'm not sure how she knew this or why it's true, but I'll just accept it and move on.

Short hair also shows off and elongates your neck, which I love almost as much as everything above and below it. And less hair means more ears. I had no idea how much I loved your ears, mostly because, thanks to your long hair, I sort of forgot you had them.

As much as I love touching and smelling and doing other creepy-sounding things to your hair, it can be a nuisance. When we kiss, I'm repeatedly moving it out of your face because gravity. When cuddling and/or sleeping, it's somehow always getting into my nose and mouth, suffocating me. If I ever ask to be the little spoon, you know why.

Have you ever rocked short hair? Have you ever wanted to but been too afraid?

Short hair alleviates these issues and provides easy access to your scalp, the most underrated and underutilized frontier for sensual touch north of the belly button.

Good news for anyone who's not down with the above.
