The secret to Kate Middleton's hair might just be in the unusual way it's cut. I offered my hair up to find out.
You see, recently, the folks at Shu Uemura invited me into the New York City location of the Rossano Ferretti Hairspa-you know, the salon where Middleton has been spotted getting her hair done-for a blowout only to be smacked in the face with a video of the craziest cutting method I'd ever seen. The stylists cut into the hair with thinning sheers with quick up-and-down movements at the ends rather than regular scissors, creating seamless layers and removing weight. So when they offered to cut my hair, I thought What would the Duchess do? and went for it.

The goal wasn't to copy the Duchess's haircut-my hair is much wavier and coarser than hers. They simply cut my hair to remove weight and let my natural wave do its thing.
In the end, it was loads lighter with quite a lot of movement. It took me a while to get used to-my hair is very thick and heavy, so the working with wispier ends was new to me. But I can see why Middleton picked this technique-it creates full hair that doesn't have any distinct lines, so everything falls softly like the hair of a storybook princess. Now if I only I had the Duchess's wardrobe...
