Hello kiddies. This little lesson in hair styling has been inspired by Rihanna's look at the recently held 2013 American Music Awards.
In all her 'Rihanna- glory', the 'Diamonds' singer wore a glittery two-piece dress, stiletto nails, her tattoos, and lots of sparkly jewellery. But what had us looking, and looking, was her hair.
It wasn't tied or anything. Rather it was pinned down with clips, after having brought from one side of her head to the other.
Sit up. It's called 'Doobie Wrap'. And before you recreational bunch get any ideas, it's the name given to the kind of hair tying that involves wrapping your hair around the head using circular brush, comb, or finger-comb motions. It's mostly practised by African-American women at night, so they get fluffier hair in the morning.
So technically it's not a hairstyle, but a roadmap to get to one, you can say. And is was because of this reason alone jaws were dropped, and tongues left wagging after the singer accepted the AMA's Icon Award.
May be her 'troubled' fans can find respite in the fact that she added some pearl and rhinestone encrusted bobby pins when she came on-stage to perform 'Diamonds'.
Known for frequently experimenting with her hair, seems Rihanna's motto is 'Do with your hair, what you can't do with your dress'.
