Gifted hurler dies from injuries following road traffic accident


A YOUNG man that was injured in a road traffic accident has died from his injuries.

Sean Cronin, from Cappataggle Co Galway, was a passenger in a vehicle that struck a ditch near Gort, Co Galway, in the early hours of last Sunday morning.


He was initially taken to the University Hospital Galway, but was later transferred to Beaumont Hospital, Dublin, where he passed away on Friday evening.


Sean was the sole passenger of the car when it struck a ditch along the N66 Loughrea to Gort Road, at approximately 4.30am, on November 17.


The rural parish of Cappataggle is in shock since the news of the accident emerged.


Tragic Sean has been described as a gifted hurler, and a spokesperson from the Cappataggle GAA club- where Sean played- said earlier in the week, that 'their thoughts are with the family.'


There has been an outpouring of tributes since the news of the popular young man'a death emerged, and he has been described as 'a lovely chap'.
