The Benefits Of Natural Oils for Your Hair

It's about that time to kick the hair conditioning up a notch because my hair is starting to feel really dry again. But like I've said before, you don't have to buy expensive products for your hair - you probably already have what you need sitting right in your pantry. I know firsthand that natural oils are the best thing you can do for your hair, especially if it's dry or curly. I've used coconut oil all of my life, and I just recently fell in love with Argan Oil. Honestly, it's rare that I find a product that does the trick by giving my hair the moisture that it needs. My hair sucks it up like a plant that hasn't been fed water in days!

Why do I rave so much about natural oils for your hair as opposed to spending money on a ton of products? Let's take a closer look at the benefits of Natural Oils for your hair.

Coconut oil Where do I even begin? I started using Coconut Oil in my hair years ago after being told that the Indian and Caribbean women in my community used it to keep their hair long and luxurious. I was about 16 or 17, and really wanted my hair to grow from a bad hair cut. I would comb it through my hair at night to make sure it really got in my scalp! Aside from looking a bit greasy (I perfected the application after a while), my hair seemed to grow a lot faster. I'm sure the combination of combing it through my hair (stimulating blood flow in my scalp) helped a lot too. Coconut Oil is also great for dandruff and moisture.

Avocado oil I've tried a few avocado conditioners on my hair for a boost of shine. If you combine it with egg yolk, olive oil and yogurt at least once a month, your hair will love you for it! Avocados have natural humectant properties that lock in moisture and it also acts like a natural SPF. Like our friend the coconut, the avocado is rich in vitamins B and E and is great for hair loss and strengthening hair.

Castor Oil Castor Oil is another hair treatment I heard a lot about growing up but didn't try it until recently. Because I have so much hair, I stayed away from anything that claimed to make it thicker. I know what you're thinking but when an up-do gives you headache, you don't want your hair any bigger than it is. At least I don't! But I did try Castor Oil to see if it gave me a bit more shine, and it really does do the trick. Castor Oil is great for split ends and it's magical on frizz, which is why I really like it. It even helps prevent scalp infections and combats hair loss.

Olive Oil I love using olive oil for a variety reasons, especially for my hair. It's great for moisturizing and deep conditioning. The fatty acids found in olive oil will coat the shaft of your hair, which is perfect if you use heating tools.

Almond Oil Almond is another great way to lock in moisture. It's high in vitamin E content and will help make your hair stronger, prevent hair loss and boost shine.

Argan Oil Argan Oil aka 'Liquid Gold' is what I am currently using regularly. It helps keep my hair hydrated and controls a lot of the fly-aways. My hair absorbs the oil really well, so it never looks greasy. It's works wonders on my ends, which were Ombré blonde about a year ago and now in recovery mode as it grows out. I can't recommend Argan oil enough if you want shiny and lustrous hair.
