About 200 fashionable people gathered in the basement of New Grounds Roasting Company on West Market Street in York Sunday for the third annual Hair4ACare Hair Brawl presented by Wynn Entertainment and Natascha Marnetta.

The event was organized to raise awareness for domestic violence, according to Marnetta. A portion of the proceeds will go to the York YWCA.

The event, hosted by filmmaker Ryan Rossum, showcased the talents of local barbers, cosmetologists and their male, female and child models who walked the catwalk.

Jerald Proctor performed his personal spoken word poetry that addressed issues of domestic violence.

The crowd was warmed up by rapper Its Ya Boy, along with DJ Boogz, who provided musical entertainment.

Dre Desihelds and Casey Rossum performed a dance with a domestic violence storyline.

Marisa Wilson, Erica Scott and Belinda Martines judged the event for performance, style, creativity and stepping outside of the box.

'For the fantasy category, we look for extreme, like 6 inches above the head, extreme color,' Martines said. 'For the traditional, we're looking for more updated, modern styles that people can wear today.'

There was also a skit performance category that incorporated a theme and cutting hair, said Keenan Wynn Kearse of Wynn Entertainment, who worked for several months with Marnetta to plan the event.

'To raise awareness for domestic violence, we're stating 'Don't forget about it,'' Kearse said. 'We don't want to hide domestic violence. We want to bring it to people's attention so they can think about it.'
