Martha Hunt Talks Holiday Dressing, Rock

Before she was an Angel, model Martha Hunt was a Free People girl. 'I have been working for them for years and years and years,' she tells Style.com. 'I remember one of the first shoots I ever did with them was with Elsa Hosk and we were just running around Paris. I think it was one of my favorite shoots ever.'

Last night in New York, the blue-eyed blond from North Carolina played host to the boho brand's holiday fete, where they debuted a new collection of lace, beaded, and sparkly, party-ready frocks. Here, Hunt (who is also busy prepping to walk in the upcoming Victoria's Secret show) talks to Style.com about nailing your festive holiday look, dressing for the impending Polar Vortex, and making the best Christmas cookies ever.

How do you approach holiday dressing? Any suggestions?

You just want to look really fun. Free People has the perfect outfits because they are fun and flirty and sexy, without overdoing it. From their holiday collection, I love the sequined pantsuit-you can't go wrong with that. But also I love to just wear a great dress, and then either a red lip-I like Shu Uemura or NARS-or just a smoky eye. Also, the Free People girl usually has her hair pretty undone, no full blow-out or anything. A little rock 'n' roll is always better.

What are your favorite products to achieve that rock-and-roll hair?

Definitely a dry shampoo. I like Oribe.

How do you like to celebrate the holidays?

I love a good holiday party, like a tacky-sweater Christmas party. For New Year's, I like to go somewhere warm with friends on the beach where no one will bother you. I think that is actually my favorite holiday ever. I love Mexico, the Caribbean, or there's St. Barts if you want to go swanky.

Favorite food to eat during the holidays?

When I go home to North Carolina, I love to make barbecue chicken with corn cakes. It's my favorite! And I make the best Christmas cookies in the world. Well...my mom does and I just help.

How do you like to work off those holiday cookies?

When I am on vacation, I am hiking or swimming with my friends-pretty much anything outdoors. And I do lots of yoga. In the city, I train with a trainer about three times per week depending on my scheduling. I just started adding weights because I am training for the Victoria's Secret show-but mostly resistance training and Pilates. I also just started to do a little boxing. It's so trendy to box right now!

What are you hoping to get or give this Christmas?

I love anything Apple, anything that connects all of my tech devices and makes my life a little bit easier. Also, for clothes, I love everything Free People, so hopefully I will get lots of that.

What are your cold-weather survival techniques?

I am late to this trend, but I just bought a Canada Goose jacket because last winter I never had anything that could handle the winter. I remember constantly layering up and feeling like I never felt warm the whole winter. Who knows if it's going to happen again, but I am ready this time.

What are your go-to cold-weather beauty tactics?

I have been using different moisturizers, but I always love Avène. Their moisturizers are perfect for winter. Other than that, I like to keep it pretty simple. My skin tends to get extra dry in the winter.
