Bleckley Co. High girl in trouble for dyed hair

Bleckley County High School freshman Maegan Galloway wanted to do something different to her hair over the weekend.

So she dyed it blue.

That didn't go over well with administrators.

While eating lunch in the school cafeteria on Monday, she saw the assistant principal walking towards her.

'She said my hair was too distracting and I need to change it back,' Galloway told 13WMAZ in a telephone interview Tuesday.

The student was sent home and was told she couldn't return until she dyed her hair back to a natural color.

Dyeing it again could cause too much damage to her hair, Galloway said.

Her sister and her friend have since took to Twitter and created the hashtag #savetheblue. Students at the school Tuesday took to Twitter and encouraged classmates to wear blue to support Galloway.

'She was outraged, so she and a friend started the whole thing,' Galloway said about her sister.

She said she's been blown away by all of the support being shown to her through social media.

'The support has been overwhelming,' said Galloway. 'It's been great. I didn't think that many people knew who I was.'

While Galloway said she can't return to school until dyeing her hair a natural color, Pricipal Trey Belflower told 13WMAZ that the student is not suspended, but declined to talk further about the incident.
