Editor's Note: Today we introduce a new feature that focuses on hair care. Today's column deals with the age-old problem of how to keep that new hairstyle looking fresh days after you've left the salon. It was submitted by the stylists at Tracy Riggs Salon. ***
You're sitting in the chair of your favirite hair stylist, and she (or he) has just finished another masterpiece. Then you turn toward the mirror...
'OH, M GEE!' you say out loud. 'I LOVE IT!'
That's when an overwhelming anxiety hits you and a confused look acrosses your face. You blurt out, 'How am I going to keep it looking like this?'
Well, it's not as hard as you might think. And if you follow our tips below, you won't be sitting up in a chair all night trying to preserve your perfect new hairstyle.
Long, curly hair
To keep your curly-do for at least 5 days, simply remember 'two buns and I'm done.' In other words, separate your hair in two buns, one on each side, or part from ear to ear and put one on top and one back. Use a Velcro hair wrap and get a great night's sleep.
Straight hairstyle
Protect it. Swap out your pillowcase for silk or satin to prevent breakage and frizz. Better yet, brush your hair around your head, sleep with a silk hair wrap or scarf to keep your hairstyle from completely flattening.
Medium-length curls
Easy! Make sure you have about 12 bobby pins. Slide the pins onto the ends of your hair then roll up like you are rolling your hair with curlers. When you've reached your scalp, slide the bobby pin to secure. Repeat this process until all of your hair is pinned. Don't tie your hair up! Use a silk or satin pillowcase to sleep on.
Congrats!
Morning is here, and you've managed to salvage yesterday's hairstyle.
