Karreuche Tran, Chris Brown's girlfriend of five years was invited to co-host on BET's music show, 106 & Park. During a segment titled Top Six Things Blue Ivy Thought At The VMAs, the model read out: 'I really did wake up like this, because my parents never comb my hair.' After a short giggle, Tran continued, 'Sorry Blue! I love you.'
After the episode aired, thousands of people took to Twitter to slam Tran and BET for the comments. Responding to tweets asking why she saw fit to make fun of a toddler, especially about her having natural hair, Tran explained she was reading from a teleprompter and had not been told the script was revised.
'Now y'all know I LOVE me some Beyoncé and Blue Ivy! I didn't write this script y'all lol. I am definitely team Beyhive.' Karrueche tweeted.
She later sent out a statement via her representatives, reports Hollywood Life. It read: 'In no way did Karrueche mean to offend Blue Ivy or her parents Beyonce and Jay Z. This was Karrueche's first time hosting on live television... Karrueche is taking full responsibility for the comment but wants it clear that she would not mock a child. Karrueche admires girls and women who wear natural hair, 'I love that Blue is able to wear her natural hair. I laugh when I am nervous and when I registered what I had just said, I of course was taken aback.'
Stephen Hill, president of music programming at BET took to Twitter to state that the joke was 'unthoughtful and stupid' adding an apology was sent to the Carters.
'We have taken punitive actions with those responsible. It was very bad judgment and we will serve you much better in the future. Oh, and please don't hate on Karrueche; it was NOT her fault. We also apologize to her for putting her in that position.'Meanwhile, the network has apparently decided to suspend the daily show for the next two weeks. According to Hello Beautiful.com, the network denied it was because of the Blue Ivy joke saga. A source told the entertainment website, the show was due for a break.
