There is a lot to talk about in the weekend leading up to an awards show; stars come out in droves in their finest to attend the parties ramping up to the Emmys. So to set herself apart from the rest of the red carpet, a savvy celeb makes a real statement - by, say, debuting a new haircolor. Kiernan Shipka and Michelle Monaghan are just such celebs.

Shipka, 14, has had the same baby-blonde hair color since making her Mad Men debut in 2007. And now that the show has wrapped, she's free to try something new (a sentiment also shared by her Mad Men mom, January Jones). She didn't opt for anything too drastic (no undercuts for this teen style star) but it's definitely a noticeable change. The young actress attended the Entertainment Weekly pre-Emmys party Saturday with a shorter, darker do - a wavy short cut tinted a rich sandy brunette and offset with fresh, youthful makeup and EF Collection earrings.

Michelle Monaghan went the opposite direction at the Variety and Women in Film pre-Emmys party, showing up with noticably lighter locks. She went for an allover honey-hued update with bright blonde highlights throughout, and lightened her eyebrows and makeup look to go with. She's known for her porcelain, Snow White-like looks, so we love this unexpected update on her.
