Well, I've been working as a model all over the world after winning Miss Black Country in 2007. I was also a finalist in Miss UK.
As it happens I remember the very date when my life turned upside down. It was Thursday, May 12, 2012, and I'd just been in the gym followed by a long steam room session. Needless to say, when my phone rang, I wasn't looking my best. Great, I thought as I reached for my phone, half a bottle of shampoo still in my hair.
I answered the phone and it was my pal Patrick. His Filipino friends were in town and they wanted me to model for them. I needed to be at London Bridge by 12noon - in just 30 minutes' time.
To cut a long story short, Patrick's friends turned out to be an international team of celeb photographers, make-up artists and stylists, with clients like Sarah Jessica Parker.
At the end of the shoot the snapper asked if I'd considered modelling in Asia. Truth be told, I hadn't.
But I took this random day as a push in the right direction and agreed to submit some photos to the chief of Elite over there; the same agency that represents Naomi Campbell and Cindy Crawford.
Three months later I'm on a flight to Philippines, where I worked as a model around Asia for a year.
I hadn't even unpacked my case before I was whisked off to an exotic island for my first magazine cover shoot. At this point I thought to myself, who's too short now, eh? At 5ft 8in, I am not as tall as some of my peers and been told so maany times.
Like most girls in my field though, I wanted to make it big in America. Taking a risk and moving to Asia gave me the experience, knowledge and, most importantly, the connections I needed to do it.
And now, one year on, I find myself in the US - New York to be exact. I'm aware of how fortunate I am to be doing what I do.
As well as modelling, I also love writing but I've struggled to find my voice. Until now.
Since arriving in NYC I can't stop putting pen to paper and I want to share my experiences with you back home in the Midlands. Writing for the Star was an obvious choice; they've supported me since winning my first modeling competition at 17.
My life in NYC is very different from back home and I am shocked at just how easy it is to get up close to celebrities.
We all love to reading celeb magazines, we put stars on pedestals and imagine it's impossible to get anywhere near that life.
I landed in NYC on Halloween. I was now pretty used to getting ready in a rush and was unsurprised when my driver told me I had an event to attend that evening.
Turns out it was only Jamie Foxx's Halloween party! I'm not sure if it was jet lag, or the fact that nothing surprises me anymore, but this seemed perfectly normal.
So there I was, less than 12 hours into my new life in NYC and stood just a few feet away from Jamie.
Aah! I thought to myself as my head hit the pillow that night . . . so this is what celebrity life looks.
And this was just the beginning.
