Queen Letizia's Braid — A Royal Hairstyle Fit For A Queen

After King Juan Carlos abdicated the throne at midnight on June 19, ending a 36-year reign, his son Prince Felipe and wife Princess Letizia were crowned today in Madrid, Spain, as new King and Queen. The current financial crisis obliged the new royals to organize a simple ceremony. Even with the low-key celebration, Letizia pulled off a very elegant look, topped off by a beautiful braided headband around her gorgeous hazelnut hair.

Letizia, the beautiful 41-year-old former journalist and newly-crowned Queen of Spain, was part of the official ceremony on June 19 in Madrid, Spain with her husband King Felipe of Spain and their two daughters, Leonor and Sofia. Queen Letizia stood out with her simple cream ensemble, but what we really loved was the discreet braid in her hair, a simple yet elegant hairstyle that fits any occasion. HollywoodLifers, does her style remind you of another royal, Kate Middleton? Read below to get Letizia's look!

This braid can be done on any type of hair, but it really boosts thin hair. If Letizia did not have this braid around her head, her hairstyle would have looked common and almost boring, something you do not want when you are about to become Queen of Spain!

It is also a very practical hairstyle, as you do not need many products, just some hairbands and bobby pins! However, if you feel like you want to add some texture to your hair, create natural beachy waves before braiding your hair. We recommend Garnier Fructis Style De-Constructed Beach Chic Texturizing Spray. Applied on damp or dry hair, this product will add a nice, textured summertime feel to your braided hair.

How To Get This Hairstyle

First, make sure your hair is properly combed and brushed to avoid any unwanted knots while you are making the braid. Separate the hair closest to your ears in two parts, and bring the hair at the back of your head into a ponytail. This sectioning will help you a lot while doing the braid.

Take any of the two chunks of hair by the ear, and start making the braid. Don't forget to lift the braid up around the head and to wrap a thin hairband at the end of the first small braid. Repeat for the second chunk of hair. When you are done, lift both braids and wrap them around the front of your head, right by the forehead line. The two braids should go all around the back of your head, where you secure them together by fixing the braids with a bobby pin. You can then release the remaining hair from the ponytail, and here is your final look!
