The Best Temporary Products for Rainbow

We know it's a little daunting to think about dying your hair a crazy colour like pink, blue or purple, but it won't cost you much. And your lovely lady locks will be just fine during and after the hair-dying process, and you'll ooze confidence once you bite the bullet and do it. Besides, don't you think it would be kind of fun? We do, and that's why we've taken a cue from colouring queens like Nicole Richie, Kylie Jenner and Lily Allen, by pulling together the best semi-permanent hair colourants in out-there shades.

All the cool kids are doing it, and now you can, too. See below for our favourite semi-permanent and temporary products that last just as long as the phase at hand, but won't damage your hair in the process.

We suggest easy-to-apply, non-drip creaming foam to avoid messy home dying jobs. The De Lorenzo Novasemi Colour Mousse ($21.95) is semi-permanent and sulphate-free, giving you a rich, eye-catching colour. It also locks in hydration and shine, reducing damage due to its deep conditioning and softening formulation. It lasts six to eight washes and won't damage the natural pigment of your hair.

If you consider yourself a pro, go for a standard hair dye like Schwarzkopf's Live Colour Ultra Brights range. It's only $4.39, so you can afford to buy more than one if your hair is on the longer or more resistant side. The colours are pretty wild too, with Shocking Pink, Electric Blue and Magnetic Purple available, meaning you can easily channel one of Katy Perry's many looks. Lasts eight washes.

If you're a little nervous about the whole thing, hair chalk is the way to go. You can see the results as you apply, and you're also able to try a multitude of looks with the 12 assorted colours, including dip-dyed hair. If you have hair extensions or don't own an umbrella, then chalk isn't for you. You can jump on this bandwagon with the Vixen Hair Graffiti Hair Colour Chalks ($11.95).

A similar process topacket dye, but without all the unnecessary packaging, tedious mixing and shaking to get the party started. The Manic Panic Semi-Permanent Hair Color Cream ($27.95) is the creation of former Blondie members Tish and Snooky Bellomo and has a huge range of colours that last four to six weeks on average. It's also a vegan and PETA award-winning product, so you'll have a clear conscience if you choose this one.
