A NEWQUAY hair salon has hit the headlines after grabbing the attention of a prominent international hair magazine.
Jason Churchill's Untamed Styling salon in St Columb Minor is featured in the June edition of the Hairdresser's Journal, which lands on the desks of most major salons in Europe.
Hairdresser's Journal, which is on sale in most large magazine stores, saw the salon had been featured in smaller hair magazines and on social media, and called Mr Churchill for a feature.
Mr Churchill has worked in many high end London salons and decided to open his own business in Cornwall last year to be closer to his family.
'It's quite a thing. All the big salons are in there, and not usually the little town salons, so to be approached by them for a feature is quite a thing for me,' Mr Churchill said.
'I think a lot of salons contact them and on this occasion they contacted me, so it's an achievement and an honour.'
Mr Churchill said the magazine loved the interior style he had created at Untamed Styling, which is situated in an elegant former school building on School Close.
'They loved the look and also, it's not in London, where all the big boys are located. It has an individual look to it whereas most go with the standard look with standard furnishing.
'It has beautiful character and a charisma, so hopefully it will inspire other salons to pick up on that.'
Mr Churchill also feels it's a positive step for a smaller business from Cornwall to receive recognition outside of the county.
'It's nice to see local Newquay businesses and residents hitting the headlines in a positive light and showing that it is possible to achieve recognition out of the county, being seen as part of the bigger picture,' he said.
'I feel it is inspiring to locals who think you can only make it by heading to the big cities. It shows that it is possible to make an impression outside Cornwall, and being active on social media certainly helps. I might even attract more clients now.'
