Hairdresser Carlos Dimas found dead in his salon

Award-winning hairdresser and fashion designer Carlos Dimas, 53, was found dead in his hair salon Monday just three days after he was arrested by Fort Myers police.

Dimas was arrested for sexual assault and aggravated assault on Friday.

He was well known in the area for his flashy billboards that depict him with scissor hands and a bare chest.

Dimas has an extensive record in Lee County dating back to 1991. He has been arrested 10 times for charges including battery of an officer, stalking and resisting arrest. He was the owner of Hair by Carlos, a well-known salon off College Parkway.

The police report on Friday's assault said Dimas forced his way into the victim's Fort Myers home after she opened the door, and he threatened to stab the victim with a pair of hair scissors that he pulled from his pocket. According to the report, Dimas repeatedly asked himself, 'Should I kill her or shouldn't I?'

The report quotes him telling the victim that he 'doesn't mind doing 10 to 20 years in prison, that he had nothing to live for anymore.'

The report also says Dimas told the victim that his business was destroyed and, since they (the victim and Dimas) were no longer together, he had nothing to lose.

Dimas was a skilled hair stylist.

According to his salon's website, Dimas held the 1997 title of Supreme World Champion from New York and he won Third Place Overall World Champion from the Hair World 2000 Olympics.

The website says he taught at Hair America in 2001, served as a state educator for beauty companies Joico and ISO and was an educator for Berelli.

Buddy Martin, chief operations officer for Entech, works in the offices above the salon. 'I know he was here in the morning,' said Martin. 'And all of a sudden we had ambulances in the parking lot.'

Martin said he did not know Dimas very well.

Other business owners who share the Summerlin Sight condominium complex where Hair by Carlos is located declined to talk.

Hair by Carlos is closed. Business owners reported they saw family members clearing out the salon Monday.

The Lee County Sheriff's Office responded to the call of the discovery of Dimas' body and still investigating.
