Giorgio's Hair Salon Hosts Locks of Love Event
On June 3, Giorgio's Hair Salon of 30-26 Steinway St., Astoria hosted their first benefit event for Locks of Love, a public nonprofit organization that provides hairpieces to financially disadvantaged children suffering from longterm medical hair loss. For years, Giorgio's has been accepting walk-ins for interested donors but this year they decided to make an event out of it. Hair donations for Locks of Love require at least 10 inches of hair. Nine brave ladies participated in the event, including Mariadolores Alvarez who helped organize the event and who has been donating hair since kindergarten. The girls who participated in the Locks of Love event also collected donations for St. Jude Children's Hospital. Giorgio's was happy to host Locks of Love and is looking forward to having more in the future.
