Like glucose to the bloodstream, the sugar rush trend for coloured hair is showing no signs of slowing down.

Last week, Rita Ora was spotted with a rainbow of coloured extensions woven into her hair on stage at Radio 1's big weekend in Glasgow. Brit model of the moment Cara Delevingne followed suit - albeit in a wig - with grungy, green locks, while on the other side of London town Lily Allen showed off her fiery red ombré locks at the Topshop x Ashish party. Stateside, Rihanna has already made a habit of a bubble gum pink hairpieces, allegedly borrowed from the candy queen herself, Nicki Minaj.

The latest rainbow girl to join the green gang (Katy Perry is already a member) is Kylie Jenner, with a turquoise dip-dye number, previewed first at the Billboard Music Awards, and dressed up for the 'Kimye' wedding in Florence. Seems even a Givenchy dress and super glam nuptials makes room for rainbow hair now.

Time will tell if these new colour mavens make a signature of their new hues, just like models Chloe Nørgaard and Charlotte Free have done with their now signature rainbow locks. Happily for the colour commitment phobes amongst us, there are a number of options available to taste test the trend for yourself.

Spray-in colours are an easy option to experiment with colour. As well as pink, Label.m have now added blue, red and purple to their Powder Spray (£9.95, store.tonyandguy.com) range, an aerosol colour that can be applied as an ombré, in steaks or used for all-over colour. 'Bold colours are on-trend' said TONI&GUY international artistic technical director Jayson Gray. 'My top tip however would be to lock in the colour by spritzing label.m hold and gloss to add a hi-shine finish.'

For a longer lasting finish, go for a liquid option. L'Oréal Professional Hair Chalk (£15, lookfantastic.com) is a pigment applied to the hair in streaks using an applicator, or diluted for a more pastel finish. Colour lasts for about two washes. 'You can let the hair dry naturally, or use a hair dryer for a more polished result,' advises James Galvin, senior stylist at Daniel Galvin salon. To work lovely lilac, just like Nicole Richie, opt for First Date, or make like Ireland Baldwin with Blue Ocean Cruise.

There is, of course, the home dye option. Bleach London, which started out as a hotspot for rainbow dye dos in Dalston (East London's hipster heartland) now has a mini-me version sold in Topshop Oxford Circus, plus a range of DIY dye jobs sold nationwide in Boots. Ideal for a medium-term relationship with colour, the Super Cool Colours promise to fade out in 10 to 12 washes. We love Washed up Mermaid azure, Parma Violets lavender and Sea Punk green (£5, boots.com) . What's more, their online Bleach Bible on the Bleach site offers tips and tricks to make the most of your at-home process, such as the little-known mayo hair mask.
