Aussie model Andre Pejic is the first star to be cast in Sofia Coppola's live-action adaptation of The Little Mermaid.
According to IMDB, the androgynous model is set to play one of Ariel's mermaid siblings ('Sister #4' to be exact). With Emma Watson rumoured to be playing Ariel, we're pretty excited about the whole shebang.
This is the first time Sofia Coppola will be tackling a Disney-scale blockbuster, but don't expect it to be all sing-a-longs and sunshine. Coppola's version will stay true to the original tragic ending by Hans Christian Andersen, where the mermaid sacrifices herself rather than killing her prince. (Seriously, read the synopsis over on Wikipedia, - it ends with, 'She will eventually rise up into the kingdom of God'.)
Twisted plotlines aside, we're pretty psyched to see Andre Pejic on the silver screen. The 22-year-old has previously starred in a short film called Reason, a made-for-TV drama Faith, and even alongside Saskia de Brauw and Tilda Swinton in the music video for David Bowie's 2013 single 'The Stars (Are Out Tonight)' . But to see her donning seashells, pastel (?) hair and a mermaid tail, well, that changes the game entirely.
