American Girl store set to doll up Scottsdale Quarter

A little girl power is coming to Scottsdale.

Middleton, Wisconsin-based American Girl announced today it plans to open a retail store in Scottsdale next summer. The brand, a division of toy giant Mattel Inc. (Nasdaq: MAT), sells dolls, accessories, books and more targeted to girls age 3 to 12.

American Girl will lease 12,000 square feet at a 180,000-square-foot expansion of Scottsdale Quarter for one of its experiential retail stores, where girls can find the company's full lines of historical and contemporary dolls, as well as accessories and books.

'Scottsdale Quarter has become the pre-eminent shopping destination in the Arizona market and a model for experience-centered retail development,' said Glimcher'>Michael Glimcher, chairman and CEO of Glimcher Realty Trust, which owns Scottsdale Quarter. 'American Girl fits seamlessly with our focus on bringing the best mix of retail, entertainment and dining to market.'

The store also will feature a bistro where girls can enjoy a meal and dessert, as well as give their dolls a new hair style at the on-site doll hair salon.

'For 16 years, American Girl retail stores have created unforgettable memories for millions of girls and their families, and we're thrilled to now bring the American Girl experience to even more fans in the Phoenix/Scottsdale area,' said Wade Opland, American Girl's vice president of retail.

Opland called Scottsdale, specifically the Quarter development, the perfect place to introduce the American Girl brand into the Phoenix market.

'As a leader in experiential retail, American Girl has found a great partner in Scottsdale Quarter, a well-established premium shopping center with an upscale mix of stores and restaurants,' he said. 'It's an ideal location to introduce American Girl to the area and we look forward to opening our doors in summer 2015.'
