Optimizing Beach Beauty

Spring has sprung, Finally! I was starting to think I had been transported, in my sleep, to Seattle with this dreary weather we've had to put up with for the last few months. Though the groundhog did not see his shadow, the sun is finally returning to Galveston Island.

Growing up in Galveston, this time of year always makes me nostalgic of great days at the beach followed by bonfires when the sun went down. In honor of this, I have chosen two styles that to me optimize beach beauty. I'm going to walk you through each style so when your feet hit the sand all eyes will be on you!

First is the beachy ponytail. To create this style, work a golf ball size dollop of mouse into towel dried hair. Then using your hands or a paddle brush blow hair dry. This will add lift and texture to the roots. Once hair is dry, gather into a high ponytail. Use a nylon or boar bristle brush; this will help to minimize bumps. Secure hair with a snag free elastic. These are very popular on the market right now so you'll be able to find them at most drug stores. This type of elastic will help prevent breakage. Once secure, section hair into 1 inch pieces and wrap around a curling iron or wand. Adjust the amount of sections for the amount of curl you desire. The key to making this look appear so easy and breezy is to leave the last 2 inches of each section straight. When finished curling, it's important to let the hair cool. This step will prolong your look. Shakeout the ponytail with your fingers then spray a light hold hairspray such as Aveda Air Control which has flexibility. As a finishing touch, you can take a small section from the underside of your ponytail, wrap around the elastic to cover and then pin. Voilà!

The second look is best on thicker hair. Don't worry my fine-haired sisters, my next blog has a section especially for you.

This look I call the Laid Back Waves. To create this look, lightly mist hair with a heat protecting spray and then blow dry such as Aveda Brilliant Spray. Work in 2 to 3 inch sections then curl with a half inch curling iron or wand. Using a smaller barrel will help the curls stay longer. Let Hair cool and brush out the curls with a detangling brush to loosen them into waves. For additional fullness, mist hair with a dry shampoo at the and. I suggest Big Sexy Hair Dry Shampoo or Herbal Essence Naked Dry Shampoo. Both products are carried at most grocery and drug stores.

I hope these styles will be a fresh addition to your Spring hair repertoire. Checkout my next Blog for lots of Spring hair and makeup tips to get you revved up for the Season. Thanks for reading and as always Stay Beautiful and Shine!
