Kings' fans to hit the hardwood, bust a move

SACRAMENTO -- They perform for thousands of dedicated Kings' fans every home game, and now the Sacramento Kings Dancers are slowing things down to teach their moves to their fans.

On April 8, about fifty local community members will get to perform alongside the Sacramento Kings Dancers at half time in front of a massive crowd at Sleep Train Arena.

Each participant signed up to perform during an open enrollment process through California Family Fitness.

In a matter of just six, one-hour practices at California Family Fitness, the participants learned two dances: a jazz and hip hop routine. Both are actual routines that the Sacramento Kings Dancers have performed on the hardwood.

As expected, there will be hair twirling and body rolling - moves many of these participants have no experience doing -- and the dances will be performed as the professional dancers have done, without modifications.

'I see them breaking a sweat, I mean I break a sweat just trying to dance along with them, and it's awesome it's a lot of fun,' said Kings Dancer, Brittney.

Among the participants: Lorna Flores. At 44 years old, Flores is participating to prove it's never too late to live out a dream of being a Kings Dancer.

'It's tough, but at the same time it's fun. I am just elated to dance, dance, dance,' said Flores.

Also, participating: Teresa Owens. At 60 years young, Owens is one of the oldest in the group and says you're never too old to be fit and feel sexy.

'If you're self-conscious about your age, it's mind over matter. So don't worry about your age. The more you work out the better you get,' said Owens.

For the real Dancers, the Kings gig is just a part time commitment; many have full times jobs, school and children at home. The women are putting all that on hold to get involved with the community, and for one night, share the stage with their fans.

Even if the new dancers can't quite remember all the moves, there's no doubt it will be a night these fans won't soon forget.

News10 Good Morning Weekends anchor Dina Kupfer will also be performing alongside the Kings Dancers.

The dance performance will take place during half time at the Sacramento Kings vs. Oklahoma City Thunder game on April 8 at Sleep Train Arena. Tip-off is set for 7 p.m.
