Making a style statement with your mane can give your entire look a cool makeover. While fishtails and top knots have been on the fashion scene for quite some time, let's take a look at fresh hairstyles which are sure to make it to the most popular list this year. Aislinn Trodden, a global hair expert at TIGI gives a low-down on 5 trendy hair-dos with steps to try them out. Also see 5 trendy hairstyles for men in 2014.
Milkmaid braided bun: One of the classiest hairdos - the milkmaid braid is an epitome in itself. The milkmaid braid oozes innocence and an underlying sensual awareness that not many hairstyles in themselves can muster. Such a style has been spotted, both on the street and on the runway.
Get the look: Prep the hair. Then start from your parting place in your braid working the 3 strands under each other instead of over to create a 3D effect. Then start on the other side of your parting and place in a second braid wrapping them over each other at the back and pinning into place.
Low ponytails: One thing about ponytail hairstyles remains certain: they are styles that are never go out of style. So, it doesn't come as a surprise that many of 2014′s hair trends are built upon the ponytail. Also try the Natalie Portman inspired ponytail.
Get the look: Blow-dry your hair sleek and straight. Bring hair into a low pony at the nape.
Textured soft waves: Soft yet undone, this variation of the soft waves hairstyle incorporates some of that bed hair tousle and beachy texture. This hairstyle is relaxed yet flirty with that little bit of an edge, making it very natural looking.
Get the look: Blow-dry with a round brush, whilst the hair is still warm, take 2-inch sections and wrap them around your fingers horizontally and clip to the head, (like a rollers set without the rollers!) Let them cool for a while and then take all the clips out and shake your head upside down to get natural looking waves.
Boho twist up-do: Loose, wavy, and with stray hair all over the place, it's the ultimate romantic hairstyle and somehow always elevates your personality.
Get the look: Part the hair in your usual parting, now tie a loose ponytail (this could be to the side, a low pony at the nape or at the occipital bone) part the ponytail in two and loosely tie in knots until you reach the end. Tie a band at the end. Now you can loop it around itself to create a loose bun/side bun or if your hair is long enough, bring it around to your front hairline and attach it like a braid at the front. Want to stick to the retro look? Here's how Amy Adams does it right.
Wavy bobs: Bob haircuts are always in style. They're practically everywhere, so if you want to stand out a little bit, start rocking a wavy bob! Wavy bobs are a refreshing twist to the classic bob hairstyle.
Get the look: Take a curling iron and wrap pieces of hair around it. Let them cool down then simply shake them through with your fingers apply some strong hold spray to maintain the look. Also see, how to get those perfect curls.
These hair-dos may require you to use hair products to give it a nice sheen, hold and style. TIGI's Bed Head range has various products for the same.
