Multiple People Shot, 2 Killed, At Detroit Barber Shop

DETROIT (WWJ) - Detroit police have confirmed that three people were killed and as many as six others were wounded in a shooting on the city's northeast side.

It happened at around 6 p.m. Wednesday at Rockies Hair And Nail Salon in the 5200 block of 7 Mile Road, west of Mound, near Keystone Street.

Detroit Police Chief James Craig told WWJ's Jon Hewett that nine people were shot; after earlier reports said seven.

Witnesses at the scene said they heard what sounds like automatic gunfire that continued on for ten or 15 seconds.

A man working nearby said he heard 'a lot of shots' in the area, where many of the storefronts are vacant. Police cordoned off a two-block section of 7 Mile Road in each direction.

It was not immediately clear whether the shooting happened inside or outside the business, in the area where many of the storefronts are vacant.

Craig said illegal gambling has been known to take place at the location, and area residents said there was another shooting there about nine months ago.

As of 7 p.m. there was no information available about the victims, which were taken to Detroit Receiving and other hospitals.

Police are looking for a white Chevy Impala with two or three people on board.
