Jessica Alba's new 'fashion bob' has us seriously reconsidering our long layered hairstyle. But since we're too chicken to chop off several inches without giving the short hairstyle a test run, we'll be trying out a faux bob a la at the Grammys, at the SAG Awards, and Cate Blanchett at the Golden Globes.

'The faux bob is a way to stay on trend without making the commitment to a haircut,' Jennifer MacDougall, L'Oreal Professionnel artist, tells Us Weekly. 'You can wear it for one day and the next day wear it long again.'

To start, MacDougall blow dries hair straight and then, taking one-inch sections of hair, sprays Infinum 2 hairspray and wraps around a curling iron. Once the whole head has been curled, create a loose and low ponytail -- but do not pull hair all the through. Tuck the ends of the pony under, rolling the hair up, to create a faux bob. Secure the ends to your head with long bobby pins, and then sprinkle True Grip all over for texture. Finish with a spritz of Perfect Shimmer for shine.
