Bad hair day: police called to salon after woman refuses to pay

Police were called to a hairdressing salon after a customer said was unhappy with her new hair-do and refused to pay.


Hairdressers Alan Rene, in Blackburn, Lancs, said two stylists had spent several hours trying to fix an at-home henna hair dye job. However, when they presented the second half of a £107 bill, the woman refused to pay.


Customer Suzanne Zahran said her previous colour was fine and the hairdressers had not delivered the right result. Mrs Zahran also accused them of making her hair fall out.


Police who were called in at lunchtime on Thursday told the warring parties it was a civil matter that would have to be settled in court.


Hairdresser and partner in the business Hafiza O'Connor said: 'It's actually cost us money to do her hair. It was a disaster because of some henna she had used.


'The first appointment needed two of us and we spent four hours on it. We were open late but she needed to go and she wanted to leave without paying. However we asked her to pay £54 for the first stage. Then she called us up saying her hair was falling out.


'Of course I was panicked and I opened up the shop for her on my day off. But there was nothing wrong with it. Hair wasn't even coming off onto the brush. We got it looking really good. A cut and blow dry alone is £35 and a bottle of prelightner is £10. One colour foil is £35 and she had needed two'.

Two Lancashire Police officers and three PCSOs were called to the salon to calm the situation.


Mrs Zahran and her husband Fayez are both Blackburn hospital medical technologists Mr Zahran said said: 'She was very upset and her hair had been falling out.


'There had been nothing wrong with the henna dye. She had just fancied a change of colour. She had showed the hairdresser the picture she wanted and the result was nothing like it. Her roots were too light.
