A Temple woman was jailed Wednesday, charged with theft in the disappearance of more than $3,000 from the hair salon where she worked.
Mary Jo Smith, 28, was ordered held in lieu of $25,000 bond charged with theft of property more than $1,500 but less than $20,000, Bell County online jail records showed.
Smith, who lists an address in the 600 block of Twin Oaks Drive, in Temple, was arrested after employees at the Smart Styles Hair Salon, located in the 3400 block of South 31st Street in Temple, discovered that more than $3,000 missing from accounts, authorities said.
Temple police investigated the incident and turned their findings over to the Bell County District Attorney's office, which, in turn, obtained a warrant for Smith's arrest.
Investigators determined the money disappeared between May 2013 and January of this year and said transactions had been altered.
