DALLASThe 2014 Nappiology Expo is focusing on natural options for not only hair, but also the mind and body. Rene Syler, host of Sweet Retreats, is the guest speaker for the expo 'A Healthy Mind, Body and Hair Event.' The expo will be held Sunday, November 2, 2014, from 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. at the Grapevine Convention Center at 1209 South Main Street, Grapevine, Texas.
'For the past six years we have been providing men, women, and children educational information about natural hair care and beauty,' said Nappiology founder De Johnson. 'This year we are including healthy aspects to enhance their mind, body and hair.'
Dozens of natural hair-care lines have flooded the hair industry as natural hair styles have become popular again. According to the market research firm Mintel, the relaxer product that chemically straightens tightly curled hair has dropped in sales more than 26 percent since 2008. Mintel estimates the black hair-care market is a $500 billion-dollar industry.
'It's important for women to understand the ingredients in hair-care products and what they do to their hair,' said ThinkandGrowChick.com natural-hair blogger Courtney Sanders. As a college student studying chemical engineering, Sanders developed a hair-care product line. Sanders' workshop will help women figure out ways to find the best products for their hair. Rene Syler, host of the national show Sweet Retreats, will be doing a workshop on 'A Journey of Self-Discovery. 'Well, a few years ago, tragedy struck. After a brief illness that landed me in the hospital, I went back to chemically straightening my hair. What happened? My hair got dry, broke off and fell out! It was a mess! Dr. Michele Darden-Jefferson will host a workshop on the best foods to maintain a healthy body, skin, hair and nails.
Ramona Logan, Image Advantage PR consultant, will tell her individual journey of finally becoming free of hair hassles once she went natural three-years ago after taking on the Nappiology Expo as a client.
'Natural hair has allowed more women the freedom of exercising without having to worry about the impact on their hair,' said De Johnson. 'So we are offering workshop sessions with exercise and sports experts, such as LPGA golf-teaching pro Maulana Dotch, yoga instructor Bruce Boyd, and running enthusiast and Dallas ambassador for Black Girls RUN! Scymentress Williams, to show that physical fitness is an essential component of having healthy natural hair as well as a healthy lifestyle.'
