KUCHING: A presentable appearance, including one's hairstyle, creates a good first impression.

President of the Federation of Kuching and Samarahan Divisions Chinese Associations Sarawak (FKSDCAS), Temenggong Lu Kim Yong, said this at the opening ceremony of TIGI hairshow here on Tuesday.

He said it was customary for ladies to have their hair meticulously coiffured in the olden days.

Today it is still considered good social etiquette to look good for both sexes of all age groups with a major consideration being hairdressing including the cut, style and tint.

FKSDCAS deputy president Wong Tiong Hook who was also present, said hairdressing was about professional skills and creativity.

'The right hairstyle enhances beauty and boost one's confidence. Thus, it is important for hairdressers to keep updated with the latest trend and technologies.

'Being a hairdresser is a good career if one is truly interested in it and keeps improving to impress clients and gain recognition,' Wong said.

The hairshow was organised by Kuching Hairdressing Association (KHA), supported by Hock Chuong Trading, and sponsored by Maison Monica Salon DeBeaute, TIGI Professional Hair Care and The Hing Ann Association Kuching president Michael Teo.

Three guest hairstylists from the peninsula demonstrated their skills on stage, namely Denny Phang, Patsy Tai and Andy Cheong.
