Milton Keynes hair salon wins praise from Deputy Prime Minister Nick Clegg

A city salon group has been nominated for a hatrick of staff development and training awards both regionally and nationally.

Arcana Group have even receieved congratulations from Deputy Prime Minister Nick Clegg, and all this despite having no less than six maternities affecting attendance at the small chain of hair and beauty salons since the summer!

The salon works in association with Milton Keynes College, and it was the college that nominated Debbie Elderton, the salon's founder and general manager, as one of Central Eastern's best Apprenticeship Employers in the regional final of the National Apprenticeship Awards 2013.

The group, which also has Hair, Beauty & Specialist Treatment Centres based in Crownhill and Shenley Brook End, also managed to win the 'Nuclear Decommissioning Site Licence Companies Award' for Medium Employer of the Year at the National Apprenticeship Awards (regional heat) in October, and have been put forward for the national title to be announced later this month.

Arcana were personally addressed and commended in a letter from Deputy Prime Minister, Nick Clegg.

In the letter he says: 'I would like to take this chance to congratulate Arcana Group Of Salons on your success at this year's National Apprenticeship Awards.

'Apprenticeships are at the heart of our drive for a stronger economy: equipping people of all ages with the skills employers need to help their businesses prosper and compete in a global market.

'And, as we work to increase the opportunities for hard-working young to people to achieve their ambitions through high-quality apprenticeship training, it is vitally important that we celebrate the achievements of employers like you, who go the extra mile to help their apprentices and succeed.'

Arcana have also been shortlisted in the Federation of Small Businesses (Buckinghamshire) Business Awards - for which MK NEWS are partners - in the category of 'Training & Development' and await the results announced in a prestigious ceremony at Horwood House in December.

Debbie Elderton, the founder and general manager for the Arcana Group, said: 'To be recognised for our continued efforts and successes in the Apprenticeship Sector is an honour.

'As a company we have grown and been able to place even more young people in apprenticeship employment which has in-turn benefited our business and allowed expansion and development of other staff opportunities and in-house training provision.

'We hope to continue to build on this achievement and further extend our education facilities, regardless of how many of the team take time to enjoy a little personal maternity leave in one hit!'
