Stylebook: Style Week Pittsburgh sets sights on next year

Share with others:

The second Style Week Pittsburgh wrapped up only a week ago, but organizer Wadria Taylor already is pondering new paths for the annual event.

In the future, she hopes to invite buyers to some of the events to help put Pittsburgh-based brands in contact with potential retail opportunities for their designs and products. She also is exploring the possibility of orchestrating smaller events throughout the year to bring more attention to Pittsburgh-grown designers, brands and businesses and build more awareness for Style Week Pittsburgh.

For the main weeklong event, Ms. Taylor plans to keep it to seven days and at the same time of year in August. This was the first year Style Week spanned seven days.

'The seven days was a positive expansion,' she says. 'Each of [the events] was so unique ... and attracted a different audience. I've been seeing a lot of [social media] posts where people have been giving their high remarks.'

To help bolster Style Week's growth, Ms. Taylor also wants to be more proactive in seeking funding from foundations and businesses. Until now sponsorship has been provided through in-kind donations.

'We're always looking to elevate the overall quality of the event,' she says. 'I'm always someone who is looking to grow or perfect each year, align with different partners.'
