Not to knock my hair - my parents read the site, and they're the ones who gave it to me after all - but it's straight, fine and, well, kinda limp.
I'd more or less given up on the idea of having the kind of sexy, bouncy hair I saw on models and celebrities. But John Frieda® Luxurious Volume Touchably Full for Colour-Treated Hair Shampoo and Conditioner promised big things - literally - so I figured I would give voluminous hair one more shot.
Thankfully, I had a little help in the form of John Frieda® celebrity stylist Harry Josh. Josh has had his mitts in the locks of some major celebs - and now, mine.
' All girls want body,' Josh reassures me before getting to work. 'These products help to bring that.'
Josh tells me that voluminous hair is the quickest way to look pulled together. 'I think it makes hair look like it's alive,' he says. 'It's like a flower sprouting from the earth.'
I definitely want to look like a flower sprouting from the earth, so Josh walks me through the steps.
'What a lot of people don't realize is that you can start your battle in the shower,' he says. 'Using the Luxurious Volume Touchably Full for Colour-Treated Hair Shampoo and Conditioner, it mimics getting your hair freshly colored each time you wash it, which allows for a more body-full blow dry and a little more texture in the hair that holds throughout the day.'
Once you've got the right base, here's a no-fail routine for sexy, full hair: The Mohawk.
Don't panic, it's not what you think! You pull wet hair from the highest point of the brows back to the crown on each side, and attach those sections at the back. Take mousse, and apply to the 'mohawk' in small sections. Then lift hair, and blast just the two inches at the roots - it's okay if the rest of the hair is still sopping wet, you just want the heat to help the mousse do all the work. Seal in that lift with a blast of cool air.
When you've got the roots of the 'hawk done, blow dry hair as you always do. Once it's about 80% dry, you can use a round brush - use one about an inch and a half in diameter - with a little bit of tension for movement and shape at the bottom.
Tada! Sexy, voluminous hair. Seriously, this stuff was good.
I feel more confident, even just ordering my mid-afternoon latte at Starbucks.
Another thing that keeps me from being sad are trips to the gym (gotta get those endorphins, people!), but I feel almost guilty putting my hair up.
Still, I hit the gym - with a ponytail so full and bouncy, I stayed on the elliptical for an extra 30 minutes just to show it off - and afterward, did a quick refresh.
It bounced back to its full, sexy self. My roommate almost didn't recognize me.
Once she did, though, she decided my hair was just too good to waste on a night in catching up on House of Cards, so we went out for a celebratory drink. The bartender even slid me a free drink - maybe he was just being nice, but I'm willing to bet that my full, bouncy hair - thanks to John Frieda® Luxurious Volume Touchably Full for Colour-Treated Hair Shampoo and Conditioner - had a little something to do with it.
It was pretty much the definition of a good hair day.
