How to Copy Cara Delevingne and Kate Moss's Perfect Cool

When I first saw Burberry's ad campaign starring Kate Moss and Cara Delevingne for its new fragrance My Burberry, what stood out to me most wasn't the iconic trench coats or even those killer eyebrows-it was the hair. Both supermodels sport the same disheveled, piecey look that's pretty close to what they wear in everyday life. But this slightly mussed model-off-duty hair isn't usually something we see on models when they're on duty, especially in major beauty campaigns; in this context, it's all the more refreshing and cool. It's also how I wish my hair looked every single day. I spoke to Christiaan, the hairstylist behind the look, to find out how to get it. Or at least how to come as close as possible, given my mortal, non-British-supermodel hair.

'They're friends in real life, and we wanted to keep them as real as possible,' says Christiaan. 'I wanted to create a style that they would wear themselves.' The look started with a classic blowout, but unlike most trips to Drybar, smooth, shiny perfection wasn't the end goal. 'Blow-drying always makes [hair] look too fake, so you have to take the fakeness out,' explains Christiaan. To give 'redirection' to the hair, he wrapped random sections around a large-barrel curling iron for a few seconds. Then he busted out the Oribe Dry Texturizing Spray, a hair staple for cool girls everywhere. 'When I took it out, both girls were immediately like, 'Yeah, good! Spray that in there and it will be perfect!' so I just sprayed that all over,' says Christiaan.

The whole process took about 15 minutes for each model, and then Christiaan left it alone. 'At a shoot, you can count on at least a good half an hour where you can let the hair relax while they do the makeup,' he says. 'It only starts looking as you see it in the pictures after a period of time. Hair needs time to settle so it looks natural. Doing natural hair is not easy. It's a very sensitive, delicate balance.'
